Mercer Kitchen in Soho

It has been too long since my last update. The tornado called life picked up in June and threw everything around. I moved out of my apartment, then I took a few weeks off in Chicago, and then came back to a new, incredible apartment (more on this later) and now I'm out of the city again - spent another few days in Chicago and now in LA indefinitely. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of photos that I intend to throw on 130 Greene.

Here's the beautiful Mercer Kitchen in Soho. I visited the restaurant not-so-recently (six months ago) but it has stuck as one that was both nice and disappointing. I loved the design and crowd - some great, pretty people - but then the drinks were weak and did not live up to the $16 tag. If anything, the restaurant shows the greater character of the area west of Broadway in Soho - well-designed, beautiful, but overpriced. For $16 cocktails, you could hop over to some of the wonderful bars in Nolita or the Lower East Side and really enjoy a well-crafted drink. Though a bit further up the island, the bar at Nomad also comes to mind for the price point, which serves its liquor a bit on the dark and imperial British side but outstandingly so.
